I  have been always wondering that inspite of spending so much time, money & resources, why still there is problem of unemployment in the society? aren't there enough jobs in the market to accomodate & employ educated youth of this country? but remembering my past 20 years of experience into Human Resource field, I recalled that I might have interviewed more than 1 lakh candidates in my professional career & I hardly remember, candidates might have have got rejected due to poor technical skills, or may be the rejections due to weak technical skills would be less than 25% of total candidates interviewed. The major reasons for the rejections has been mostly the candidates were not able to relate with the jobs under consideration, OR they were unable to exhibit the required professional skills to perform the jobs. Even if they have been rejected due to poor Technical skills, what is the reason, if they have spent their entire life in learning the technology why do they get failed?

Probably the reason is simple, no employer wants to hire Einstein or Newton, but they want a hire a optimum resource when even if doesn't know every thing of the job but should be able to learn/acquire those skills & should be able to perform the job!! This is most common & obvious thing which every employer will look for. So what is the solution, are our current education system provide enough training/focus on those skills which contribute more than 75% of the success of an employee on the work place. Are they equipped to manage communication, approach, good work habits, good cultural behavior, probably not??

I have therefore decided to start the finishing school concept in Gujarat, as I feel pained to see students going from office to office dropping their CVs but nothing happening. Only the students who have approach /references in some companies they get placed & remaining may not get the right opportunities & they end up compromising whatever comes their ways.
So I felt there is a need of taking very systematic approach toward this situation, I therefore my recommendations will be as below:

  •  All Colleges (BE/MCA & even Arts/Science & Commerce) must have skills development programme for their students.
  • Under those programmes the students should be trained on communication skills, marketing of their profiles, personality development skills, making impressive resumes, Provided list of the companies which regularly hire freshers. etc.
  • There is a strong need of polishing the technical as well Soft skills of the students which should not be focused on the % in the semester but acquisition of real soft skills.

Anything Group has poised to undertake such finishing programmes in all the schools & colleges, initially throughout Gujarat & then at PAN India level.
